Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about solar installation, battery storage, and our services across Brisbane and South East Queensland.
Solar System Costs & Pricing
The cost of a solar system in Queensland varies depending on the size and components. A typical 6.6kW residential system ranges from $5,000 to $9,000 after the federal Small-scale Technology Certificate (STC) rebate is applied. Larger systems or those with battery storage will cost more. We provide free, no-obligation quotes tailored to your home or business energy needs.
Several factors influence the final price: system size (kW capacity), panel brand and quality, inverter type, roof complexity and access, whether battery storage is included, and any additional electrical work required such as a switchboard upgrade or three-phase conversion. Our team will assess your property and provide a detailed, itemised quote.
We believe in transparent pricing with no hidden fees. Our quotes include all labour, materials, permits, and grid connection fees. The only additional costs that may arise are if unexpected electrical issues are discovered during installation, such as an outdated switchboard that requires upgrading for safety compliance — and we'll always discuss these with you before proceeding.
Most Queensland homeowners see a payback period of 3 to 6 years, depending on their energy usage, feed-in tariff rate, and system size. With electricity prices continuing to rise, many customers find their savings exceed expectations. Adding battery storage can further reduce your reliance on the grid and improve your return on investment.
Battery Storage
Battery storage allows you to store excess solar energy generated during the day and use it at night or during peak tariff periods, significantly reducing your electricity bills. It also provides backup power during grid outages, giving you energy independence and peace of mind. As a GoodWe battery specialist, we install high-quality systems designed for Australian conditions.
We specialise in GoodWe battery storage systems, which are renowned for their reliability, performance, and value. GoodWe offers a range of residential and commercial battery solutions that integrate seamlessly with their inverters. We'll recommend the right capacity and configuration based on your energy usage and goals.
In most cases, yes. We can assess your existing solar system and recommend a compatible battery solution. Depending on your current inverter, we may need to install a hybrid inverter to enable battery integration. We'll evaluate your setup during a free site assessment and advise on the most cost-effective upgrade path.
Battery backup duration depends on the battery's capacity (measured in kWh) and your household's power consumption. A 10kWh battery powering essential loads (lights, fridge, phone charging) can typically last 12 to 24 hours. During daylight hours, your solar panels will continue to recharge the battery, potentially extending backup indefinitely in sunny conditions.
Installation Process
A standard residential solar installation typically takes one to two days. More complex installations involving battery storage, three-phase upgrades, or switchboard work may take two to three days. We'll give you a clear timeline during the quoting process and keep you informed throughout the project.
We ask that an adult be present at the start of the installation to provide access and answer any questions. Once our team is set up, you're free to go about your day. We'll notify you when the installation is complete and walk you through the system operation before we leave.
Our experienced installers take great care to protect your roof during installation. We use industry-standard mounting systems designed to be watertight and structurally sound. All penetrations are sealed with appropriate flashing and sealants. We also conduct a roof inspection prior to installation to identify any pre-existing issues.
After installation, we handle all the paperwork for grid connection on your behalf, including submitting the required documentation to your electricity distributor (Energex or Ergon). Grid connection typically takes 5 to 15 business days. Once approved, your system will be activated and you'll start generating and exporting solar energy.
Warranties & Maintenance
Solar panels typically come with a 25-year performance warranty and a 10 to 15-year product warranty. Inverters generally carry a 5 to 10-year warranty, and GoodWe batteries come with a 10-year warranty. Our installation workmanship is also warranted. We'll provide full warranty documentation at the time of installation.
Solar systems are largely maintenance-free. In Queensland's climate, rainfall generally keeps panels clean, but we recommend a professional inspection and clean every 2 to 3 years to ensure optimal performance. We also recommend monitoring your system's output regularly via the inverter app to detect any performance issues early.
First, check your inverter display or monitoring app for any fault codes. Many issues can be resolved by resetting the inverter. If the problem persists, contact us directly — we provide ongoing support for all systems we install. As a licensed electrical contractor, we can diagnose and repair faults promptly.
Yes, we offer periodic system health checks and cleaning services to keep your solar system performing at its best. Regular maintenance helps identify potential issues before they become costly problems and ensures your warranty remains valid. Contact us to discuss a maintenance schedule suited to your system.
Queensland Rebates & Incentives
Queensland homeowners can access the federal Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES), which provides Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) that reduce the upfront cost of your solar system. The number of STCs depends on your system size and location. This rebate is typically applied as an upfront discount by your installer — we handle this on your behalf.
The Queensland Government has previously offered battery rebates through programs such as the Queensland Household Battery Program. Availability and eligibility criteria can change, so we recommend contacting us for the latest information on current incentives. We stay up to date with all state and federal programs to help you maximise your savings.
A feed-in tariff (FiT) is a payment you receive from your electricity retailer for excess solar energy you export to the grid. In Queensland, feed-in tariff rates vary between retailers and are typically between 5 and 12 cents per kWh. We recommend comparing retailers to find the best FiT rate for your situation, and we can advise on how to maximise your solar self-consumption to reduce reliance on the FiT.
Yes, businesses may be eligible to claim solar installations as a tax deduction or depreciation under the Australian Taxation Office's instant asset write-off provisions, subject to eligibility criteria. We recommend consulting your accountant or tax adviser for specific advice. Commercial solar installations can deliver significant financial benefits beyond energy savings.
